Property owning fails to break poverty link

Owning property is no longer a shield against poverty, researchers have concluded.

The Joseph Rowntree Foundation found that 15 per cent of those who own their home outright and 17 per cent of people with mortgages live in poverty, compared with 61 per cent of social housing tenants.
