Party political broadcasts should be shorter and snappier, the Electoral Commission said yesterday.

In a bid to halt increasing voter apathy, the commission said that the minimum length should be halved to 90 seconds to try and stop viewers changing channels, but ruled out US-style, paid political advertising.
