Lords row rumbles on

The cabinet row over Lords reform spilled over into the Commons yesterday.

Today's Guardian speculates that Robin Cook, who supports a largely elected second chamber, may resign over the issue.

Cook yesterday hinted that it may be preferable to abolish the Lords rather than see an entirely appointed house.

Today's Telegraph reports that one MP who has canvassed opinion in detail predicted that having 60 per cent of the Lords elected would be the preferred option.

Andrew Pierce in the Times predicts that chief whip Hilary Armstrong will back a fully-appointed chamber.
