Britain will not block Robert Mugabe's visit to France for a summit on Africa.

France will be allowed to invite the Zimbabwean leader despite the European Union's travel ban.

In return, Paris will not oppose the renewal of EU sanctions against Zimbabwe next month and Mugabe will be prevented from attending an EU-Africa summit in Lisbon in April.
