Duncan Smith orders review of Tory 'brand'

Iain Duncan Smith has ordered an overhaul of the way the Tories runs their media, research and policy operations in an attempt to restore the party's "brand".

The review will be run by the party's new spin chief, Paul Baverstock.

Baverstock, who was a Tory candidate in Huddersfield at the last election, said: "The Conservative Party is a great brand, the most successful political party in the western world for the last 100 years. It has had a rough six years or so but its core values are incredibly strong and retain their appeal."

Writing in the Independent, Labour chairman John Reid warns the Conservatives that until the "wake up to the fact that the landscape of British politics has been transformed [by new Labour], they will remain out of power".
