The Tories have suspended two marketing agencies blaming a "cash shortage" for the cutbacks.

"The party finances were not looking very good at all. If it wasn't for the fact that Sir Stanley Kalms [the Tory treasurer] has a very large private budget, things would be a lot worse," the FT quotes a source as saying.
