France is demanding that thousands of asylum seekers from the Sangatte refugee centre be allowed into the UK, reports the Mail.

The paper says France is trying to "blackmail" the British government into accepting thousands of refugees, and Home Office sources have conceded that some will be allowed to cross the Channel.
