Brown rules out euro poll next year
A report by the Treasury has hinted it could reject a bid for a euro poll in 2003. It warned against accepting "rigid rules" to govern the economy which do not allow "any flexibility to respond to economic shocks".
The news has prompted widespread reporting of rifts between Tony Blair and Gordon Brown over possible British membership of the euro.
