Conservative plans for an impartial commission to examine ways of restoring faith in politics have been dealt a blow by the decision of two members to quit.

Big Brother producer Peter Bazalgette said he had never agreed to serve on the committee, while leading academic David Butler said he was concerned by the way the Conservatives were handling the committee.
