CV problems for IDS

The details of Iain Duncan Smith's CV have provided some festive fodder for today's papers after BBC's Newsnight questioned the accuracy of his autobiographical entries in Who's Who and on the Conservative website.

The Conservative leader's CV stated he was educated at Italy's 700-year-old Universita di Perugia and Dunchurch College of Management. But in reality he went to the Universita per Stranieri - or University for Foreigners - which is totally separate from the nearby medieval university.

Other revelations show the Chingford MP to have been registered at birth as George Ian Duncan Smith, raising questions over the authenticity of the Iain and whether Duncan is part of his surname or a middle name.

Nick Wood, head of press at Conservative Central Office, described the stories as "crap" and "trivial".

A Times' leader writer satirises the art of political CV writing.
