The prime minister may lose the support of the EU's smaller nations in his drive for reform, because of a "failure of diplomacy", Peter Mandelson has warned.

In an FT article, Mandelson says there has been a "backlash in the EU against Britain".

"There is also a feeling, not just in France, that Britain is too oriented to US aims and methods, that it disregards Europe's views, even marginalising fellow European leaders," he writes.
