Blair links euro to future of EU constitution

The prime minister will wait and see on Europe's constitutional blueprint before triggering a UK euro-vote, a senior French politicians has said.

During a meeting with the former French prime minister, Alain Juppe, Tony Blair is said to have linked the outcome of the EU convention on the future of Europe to Britain's membership of the single currency.

Juppe quizzed Blair on UK euro prospects: "I put the question to the prime minister. It's still on his agenda, but the date has not yet been fixed. He makes a link - this will be interesting, including for us French - between the entry of the UK into the euro and the result of the convention on the reform of the institutions."
