New moves on work and skills

Gordon Brown yesterday announced a £130 million extension of Employment Training Pilots allowing workers time off to train.

The chancellor is to target 2000 inner city areas with extra tax breaks to bring business into high unemployment areas.

The pre-Budget report also contained a pledge to improve the teaching of business skills in schools.

Gordon Brown said £60 million would be made available to ensure that by 2006 every secondary school can offer pupils five days of entrepreneurial education.
