The price of a campaign

Conservatives spent more than Labour and the Liberal Democrats put together during the 2001 general election, according to figures released yesterday by the electoral commission.

The Tory spending came to a total of £12.7 million, compared to £10.9 million by Labour and £1.3 million by the Liberal Democrats.
