Tories to hold candidate selection review

Iain Duncan Smith has ordered a review of Conservative candidate selection procedures because only nine women - compared to 47 men - have been chosen to fight the party's most winnable parliamentary seats.

The move is an admission by the Tory leader that Central Office's instruction that selection panels should be more inclusive has failed. Only one of the 57 candidates so far chosen is from an ethnic minority.
