Right to buy under threat from Prescott
Council tenants in some areas of London and the South East will lose the right to buy their homes at a discount, under reforms announced by deputy prime minister John Prescott yesterday.
He told the Labhour conference that new laws would soon be introduced which would allow councils to suspend discounts in areas with severe housing shortages.
The reform would release funds which could be spent on new council houses instead.
