Ministers to ban hunting as sport

Labour MPs are bracing themselves for a strong backlash from rural campaigners over the government's plans to out law hunting with dogs as a field sport.

Ministers are set to publish a bill in the Queen's Speech which would make it illegal to hunt for recreation.

Farmers will continue to be able to control foxes with dogs as long as they can prove they are using humane vermin control methods.

A spokesman for the Countryside Alliance warned that "the rage of the countryside will be felt".
