John Major abandoned his press conference in Texas yesterday as more revelations were made by his former lover Edwina Currie.

Currie, who took part in a succession of media interviews yesterday, accused the former PM of behaving "atrociously" to the Downing Street caterer Clare Latimer.

She also called his back to basics campaign "evil".

A YouGov poll for the Telegraph found that 88 per cent of people thought she had been wrong to disclose the affair.
