Mandelson survives deselection move

Peter Mandelson has emerged unscathed from the first moves by Labour supporters in Hartlepool to remove him as their MP.

Despite hearing accusations that the former Northern Ireland secretary is more interested in foreign travel than working for the good of Hartlepool, local party officers insisted that they would not meet to discuss whether or not he should be selected to stand at the next general election until next June, in line with party policy.
