Lords revolt on City watchdog plan

An alliance of Conservative and Liberal Democrat peers yesterday defeated the government on plans to increase the powers of the Office of Fair Trading.

The Lords voted by 134 to 123 against plans to combine the role of OFT chairman and chief executive.
