The Royal Mint is set to report an operating loss of £6.5 million in 2001/02 and has suffered from a string of management failures, according to a report from the National Audit Office.

Having made a loss of £683,000 the previous year, Treasury guidelines say the Mint's sponsoring department should have its budget cut for failing to meet targets.
