Prescott to contain urban growth
John Prescott will today unveil new measures to rein in urban growth and protect rural areas, but they will apply only to the south east.
The deputy prime minister will tell the Urban Summit in Birmingham that housing development in the south east, which the government says is under the most pressure, must contain at least 30 homes each hectare.
Conservationists have criticised the plans for their failure to deal with what they see as a nationwide problem.
