Council tenants rush to buy homes
The number of applications to buy council homes have tripled in some parts of Britain following suggestions from government ministers that their right to do so could soon be abolished.
According to a survey of councils by today's Independent, the demand is greatest in London boroughs, south east England and East Anglia.
