Afghan leader escapes assasination attempt
President Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan avoided an assassination attempt in Kandahar yesterday.
Hours after a car bomb - believed to be the work of al-Qaeda - exploded in Kabul killing 22, the Afghan president was unharmed after a shots were fired on his motorcade.
In the shoot out which followed, American special forces charged with protecting Karzai shot and killed three suspects.
