Duncan Smith to make giantkiller speech
Iain Duncan Smith will today say that his party is ready to eradicate "five giant" social evils harming the lives of people in the UK.
In a speech marking his first anniversary as Conservative leader, Duncan Smith will reiterate his determination to protect the vulnerable.
He will identify failing schools, crime, poor healthcare, child poverty and insecurity in old age as areas where Labour has failed to deliver.
Labour published a dossier yesterday which mocked Duncan Smith's attempt to modernise his party.
Party chairman Charles Clarke said: "Friday the 13th is the anniversary of a wasted year and celebrates Iain Duncan Smith's failure to offer any alternative vision, any alternative strategy, any alternative policies and any alternative people."
Today's Mail says that the speech has been drafted against a background of fierce debate over the party's policy towards the family and the Express says the Tories still have nothing to offer.
