BBC revamps political coverage

On The Record and Despatch Box are the main casualties of the BBC's long awaited reorganisation of political coverage.

While Despatch Box will not be recommissioned, On The Record will be replaced by a new one hour programme at Sunday lunchtime, to be presented by Jeremy Vine.

As well as a substantial interview, the programme will also include 20 minutes of coverage in the English regions.

Overall, there will be an extra 36 hours of political programmes a year.

The corporation said the new formats are aimed at attracting what the Guardian described as "new, more youthful audiences".
