Blunkett urges media to 'wait for the facts'

Writing in the Times today, home secretary David Blunkett argues that the media's need to anticipate and pre-judge events "is not just an irritant for ministers, it has potentially serious effects on our democratic life".

"We must recognise that the news cycle is in danger of taking the breathing space out of modern politics, undermining two of our most valuable democratic commodities; impartial statistics and thoughtful comment," he writes.
