Labour debts top £10 million

Labour's debts now stand at £10.5 million, the party's general secretary has admitted.

"We are about £5 million overdrawn and we have a £5.5 million mortgage," David Triesman told BBC Radio's The Westminster Hour.

He said that union cutbacks were partly to blame, but he warned that the party "cannot be bought" by unions seeking more influence in return for cash donations.
