Heath beats Thatcher

Sir Edward Heath is to be the first living former prime minister honoured with a statue in parliament.

The speaker, Michael Martin, has scrapped the rule that means a former PM's statue can only enter Westminster after his or her death - under new guidelines three parliaments or 12 years must expire after the PM leaves office.
