Home secretary David Blunkett is to announce plans to offer British citizenship to 35,000 people from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Malawi, who were granted British passports but were denied citizenship when their countries became independent.

The move will form an amendment to the immigration, nationality and asylum bill.
