The Labour Party is considering increasing its membership fees by up to 70 per cent.

In order to deal with the Labour's £7.7 million overdraft, party chairman Charles Clarke is to list a series of options for approval by the National Executive.

Under the plans, full rate membership could increase by £5.50 to £24 per year, while the concessionary rate could go up from £7 to £12.
