Asylum centre plans blocked by councils
The government's plans to construct three purpose built accommodation centres to house asylum seekers suffered a setback last night after two local authorities denied them planning permission.
The government is expected to appeal against the decisions for the sites at Bicester and Bingham.
A spokesman for the Refugee Council urged the home secretary to re-think the plans and called on him to proceed with smaller centres in diverse urban areas.
