Local government minister Lord Rooker yesterday announced the LAWN scheme, which will allow those living in temporary accommodation in the South East to be allocated homes in the North and the Midlands, where there is surplus housing.

Local authorities will pay relocation costs and a £300 grant to cover initial expenses.
