New pay deal for teachers
Teachers look set to be offered a three-year pay deal this week.
In a bid to end annual pay clashes, education secretary Estelle Morris will write to the School Teachers' Review Body proposing a deal to cover a period until beyond the next general election.
The government is concerned that Gordon Brown's big rises in spending will be swallowed by the pay packets of public sector workers.
