Quota plan to tackle school segregation

Bradford, the scene of last summer's worst race riots, could become the first city to introduce ethnic minority quotas in its schools.

Following recommendations in a report on disturbances in the city, Bradford council is to consider a review of school catchment areas to ensure that no school takes more than 75 per cent of its pupils from one ethnic group.

Only six of the city's schools have achieved or bettered the 75:25 ratio in the year since the riots.
