Tories set for rethink over Section 28

The Tories are set to end their support for Section 28.

Shadow treasury minister, John Bercow, said that Iain Duncan Smith has made clear his intention to review the party's position.

Bercow said: "Over the last few years we have looked at best out of touch, and at worst, nasty. The idea that most people would be inconsolable at the thought our party might change its position on this is frankly absurd."

Former shadow home secretary, Ann Widdecombe, has made clear her opposition to any change.

"If the party fails to protect children it would be very hard to retain the confidence of the people," she said.
