Commission dismisses UK linkage of aid to aslum
Brussels has dismissed as "no sense" Downing Street proposals to make development aid conditional on a country's agreement to take back immigrants.
Development commissioner Poul Neilson warned that "sanctions would be counter-productive and meaningless".
"It makes no sense to link development assistance to a country's performance on migration," he said.
