Union boss condemns asylum plans

Trade union boss Bill Morris has attacked David Blunkett's plans to overhaul the asylum system arguing it will lead to refugees being segregated from the rest of society.

Among Blunkett's plans will be the doubling of the fine imposed on hauliers caught with refugees in their lorries and the segregated education of children of asylum seekers in accommodation centres.

More than 30 Labour MPs are expected to challenge the plans in the Commons today.
