Iain Duncan Smith yesterday stepped up his attack on the prime minister over Labour's record on crime.

During the weekly session of PMQs, the Conservative leader accused Tony Blair of failing on crime.

Conservative MP Sir Teddy Taylor called on the prime minister to specify a date for a referendum on the issue.

"Our position is that we should remain in Europe, get the best out of Europe for Britain, because Britain's role is as a key player in Europe, not on the sidelines of Europe," replied the PM.
