Rule change clears way for TV buyouts
Culture secretary Tessa Jowell yesterday cleared the way for a raft of take-overs of Britain's terrestrial TV stations by easing the competition rules restricting media ownership.
Channel 5 could now be bought by Rupert Murdoch and ITV could be part sold to US giants Disney or Viacom.
But there was dismay that the new regulator Ofcom has limited dealings with the BBC.
