Britain's rate of inflation remained unchanged last month.

Excluding mortgage interest rates, it stood below the government's target at 2.3 per cent, said the Office for National Statistics.

However, house prices appear set to continue rising, with new figures showing record mortgage borrowing and a shortage of properties.
