McDonnell 'inducement' claim to be investigated by Commons watchdog
The Commons standards select committee is to investigate claims by Labour MP John McDonnell that a former Tory minister Lord Brooke offered him an "inducement" to withdraw opposition from legislation backed by big business in the City of London.
Former Northern Ireland secretary and sponsor of the City of London Bill, Lord Brooke has been accused of offering McDonnell a place on the Northern Ireland Commons select committee if he dropped his opposition to the legislation.
