MPs attack BBC marketing
The BBC has come under fire from MPs and consumer groups after sending a low-ratings programme to 50,000 viewers with the TiVo system.
Critics have branded the move as television junk mail.
"Consumers need to be protected by a strong OfCom against the naturally predatory instincts of broadcasters," said John Bryant, a Labour MP from the culture select committee.
Groups including the Consumers' Association have called for OfCom to be given powers to act against abuses of new technology.
