Clare Short, the international development secretary, last night strongly criticised the Labour party's decision to accept a £100,000 donation from Richard Desmond.

Speaking on the BBC's Question Time, Short said that she hated pornography and that the party should not have accepted the donation.

The minister said Labour's new donations committee had been set up "because of embarrassment" over the Desmond donation.
