NAO warns on soaring clinical negligence claims

The NHS could end up facing a £4.4 billion bill for clinical negligence compensation, the National Audit Office is warning.

The watchdog says the bill for claims could amount to as much as half of the chancellor's entire cash increase for the health service.

Claims for clinical negligence soared by a further £500 million last year and could end up swallowing £8 billion out of the chancellor's largesse for the NHS.
