The NUT is to escalate classroom industrial action over teacher shortages, threatening the length of the schooling week as staff refuse to cover for absent colleagues.

Up to 200 NUT delegates walked out as Tory education shadow Damian Green told the union's annual conference that teachers deserved more respect.
