Labour launches local campaign
The Labour Party launched its local election campaign yesterday, placing law and order at the top of the agenda.
Speaking at the launch, home secretary David Blunkett highlighted the government's record on car crime and burglaries, and warned against complacency towards the far right, following the announcement of the British National Party's intention to field candidates in Oldham and Burnley.
However, the party acknowledged that its toughest challenge was the prospect of low turnout at the poll in May.
