As the consequences of Gordon's Brown's NHS spending bonanza hit home in Whitehall, Home Office minister Lord Rooker mounted a scathing attack on "Treasury wreckers".

His comments came as departments predicted they would be left with the "crumbs from the table" following the announcement of record investment for the NHS.
