Brown 'sells the family silver'

The Treasury is pressing ahead with plans to sell off its collection of 17th century silverware.

Officials say the taxpayer should get the best return on the items, though it will try to sell them to institutions willing to display them to the public.

But there are doubts over whether public institutions would want to buy items that are already owned by the government.
