Tony Blair was heckled by a Muslim schoolgirl yesterday over the military intervention in Afghanistan.

Speaking at the annual politics "youth day" at Westminster Hall, the prime minister claimed that the Afghan people viewed the arrival of American and British troops as a "liberation", only to be interrupted by Sumaya Navsarka, aged 16, shouting "they don't, they don't".

Blair immediately retorted: "Don't talk to me about it. Talk to people in Afghanistan about the nature of the regime in that country before we took the action we did."
